Hombre de KRAFTWERK, Germany.
Formed under the name Organisation in 1969, Kraftwerk initially took their cues from Romantic and 20th century orchestral music. They experimented with electronic instruments, building upon the innovations of Silver Apples and avant-garde composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, and changed their name to Kraftwerk (German for 'power plant') in 1970 to reflect this new direction. The early years were turbulent and the line-up ever-changing, with even founder-member, Ralf Hütter leaving the band at one point. Emil Schult also played at some early live performances, but soon restricted himself to lyric-writing and sleeve-design in what would become a long association with the group. By the time of the Autobahn world tour in 1975, the line-up had settled on what most people now regard as the 'classic' quartet of Hütter, Schneider, Flür and Bartos.
At this point, electronic music was still seen as something of a novelty, represented in the public consciousness by the likes of the massively successful Switched-On Bach or "Popcorn". Autobahn arguably changed all this. Released in 1974, it represented a seismic shift for music.
